HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - RS-95-24 - 12/06/1995 - Recognizing Officer Laycock for DARERS-95-24 RESOLUTION WHEREAS, the D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Program was introduced this past fall to McHenry Landmark School Fifth Graders; and WHEREAS, the D.A.R.E. program helps students resist peer pressure and say "no" to drugs by developing self- confidence and self-esteem; and WHEREAS, McHenry Police Officer Patricia Laycock, who had attended an intensive training program, taught the program to the students; and WHEREAS, the teachers of Landmark School worked along with Officer Laycock, incorporating the-D.A.R.E. lessons into the students' academic subjects; and WHEREAS, nearly three hundred students have successfully completed the program and will graduate from it on December 14, 1995; and WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of McHenry wants to encourage its young citizens to remain drug free and is aware that education will help them remain so; and WHEREAS, Illinois Governor Jim Edgar also realizes the importance of the D.A.R.E. program in today's society and commends the students and Officer Laycock. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Mayor and City Council of the City of McHenry, Illinois, go on record in recognizing all the effort and hard work necessary to complete the D.A.R.E. program and congratulates the Landmark School D.A.R.E.
