FEBRUARY 7, 1996
A Committee Meeting of the Whole was called to order by Mayor Cuda at 6:45
PM on Wednesday, February 7, 1996 in the Aldermen's Conference Room of the
`- Municipal Building. At roll call the following Aldermen were present: Locke, Lawson,
Baird. Bolger arrived at 6:55 PM. Absent: Bates. City Staff in attendance were: city
Clerk Althoff, Director of Parks and Recreation Merkel.
Also in attendance were representatives from the five local car dealerships:
- Steve Buss/Buss Ford;
- Steve Farashi/Jeep Eagle;
- Gary Lang/Lang Chevrolet;
- Red Mitchell/Mitchell Buick-Oldsmobile; and,
- Bob Diedrich/Sunnyside Dodge
Mayor Cuda stated that the purpose of this evening's meeting was to explain
the bid process and establish better dialogue and public relations with the City of
McHenry's local car dealerships.
A lengthy discussion followed regarding the bid process and the apparent
exclusions of local dealerships from this process.
Alderman Bolger and Director of Parks and Recreation Merkel arrived at
6:55 PM.
It was noted that the City is not obligated to participate in the State bid program
and may, if determined desirable, create their own bid specifications for the purchase
of vehicles. All local dealerships should be sent the bid specifications and be placed
on the vehicle/truck bid list.
City Clerk Althoff was directed to provide a list of vehicles purchased within the
last three years and the names of the dealerships awarded the bids.
Gary Lang reported that the Village of Antioch hosts a car/boat sale every year
where the City closed entire streets and permits car and boat dealers to display and
sell their vehicles. He requested Council permission to investigate this type of
promotion and present his findings to Council for their consideration and possible
implementation. Council stated their willingness to consider the information.
. Some further discussion followed regarding the federal fueling requirements for
municipalities, which are to be implemented within the next two years.
