WHEREAS, Susan E. Low was elected to the Office of McHenry Ward 3 Alderman in 2001. On
July 1, 2003, Sue accepted the appointed to the Office of Mayor for the City of McHenry to serve all the
residents of our great community. Mayor Low was elected to her first four-year term in 2005, and was
reelected in 2009 and 2013, and has served each term with honor and distinction.
WHEREAS, during her 16 years of service as Alderman and Mayor, Susan witnessed and
assisted in numerous projects and initiatives enhancing the quality of life for all citizens of our
community, including but not limited to:
• Establishment of the School Safety Committee and multiple Inter -Agency Collaborations and
Mutual Aid Agreements;
• Establishment of the Northeastern Regional Communications Center serving McHenry County;
• Establishment of a dedicated Public Works Facility for all divisions of the department;
• Since 2009, has successfully supported the McHenry Police Department's efforts to achieve
accreditation in CA -LEA;
• Dedication of the Vietnam Memorial in Veterans Memorial Park;
• Construction of the McHenry Riverwalk Phase 2;
• Construction of Miller Point and Public Piers;
• Expansion of the PACE Dial -a -Ride Services and Senior Voucher System;
• Municipal Center Needs Assessment and Enhanced Security Protocols;
• Expansion of the City of McHenry Forestry Division;
• Appointment of the city's first Director of Economic Development; Adoption of the city's first
Economic Development Plan; and Adoption of the city's first Strategic Plan;
• Adoption of the city's first Underutilized Property Tax Abatement and Incentive Program; and
• Construction of the McHenry Recreation Center.
WHEREAS, Susan will always be remembered by all she served for her love and dedication to
her hometown and by the City of McHenry employees for her fair and unwavering support.
WHEREAS, Susan served the City of McHenry, its residents and business community with honor
and has acted in all matters with the welfare of the City uppermost in her mind. She can look back with
pride on her numerous contributions and accomplishments while serving our community.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of McHenry go on
record as recognizing the many contributions and accomplishments of Mayor Susan E. Low and express
their appreciation and gratitude to her on behalf of the citizens of McHenry. This Resolution will be
incorporated into the minutes of this meeting and a copy will be presented to Susan E. Low.
