WHEREAS, Robert J. Peterson was elected to the McHenry City Council as Ward 6 Alderman in
2003; was reelected three times; and has served honorably until this day February 20, 2017; and
WHEREAS, Robert J. Peterson has served the City of McHenry in his capacity as Ward 6 Alderman
since May 2003 and was re-elected to the office three times. During his tenure as Alderman, Bob served on
several standing -committees including the Finance and Personnel Committee, Community Development
Committee; and the Parks and Recreation Committee where he served as its Chairman; and
WHEREAS, during his years of service, Bob witnessed and assisted in:
• Development of the Parks and Open Space Master Plan;
• Purchase of the 22-acre addition to Petersen Park;
• Development of the Bike Path Plan;
• Development of the Petersen Park Waterfront;
• Development and expansion of city parkland;
• Inter -agency Mutual Aid Agreements;
• Inter -agency Partnership for the Police Dispatch Center;
• Establishment of Home Rule Authority;
• Design and Construction of the McHenry Riverwalk;
• Purchase, design, and construction of Miller Point and Public Piers;
• Development of McBark Dog Park;
• Expansion of the City of McHenry Forestry Division;
• Eight years of balanced city budgets; and
• Planning, design and construction of the McHenry Recreation Center.
WHEREAS, Bob has acted in all matters with the welfare of the City uppermost in his mind and can
look back with pride on his numerous contributions and accomplishments while serving our community
honorably for fourteen years.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the McHenry City Council recognizes the many
contributions and accomplishments of Robert J. Peterson and expresses its appreciation and gratitude to him
on behalf of the citizens of Ward 6 and the entire McHenry community. And, BE IT FURTHER
RESOLVED that this Resolution be incorporated into the minutes of this meeting and that a copy be
presented to Robert J. Peterson.
