HomeMy WebLinkAboutResolutions - R-16-019 - 09/19/2016 - NATIONAL MANUFACTURING DAYR-16-019 A RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING THE IMPORTANCE OF MANUFACTURING AND DESIGNATING OCTOBER 7, 2016 AS NATIONAL MANUFACTURING DAY IN THE CITY OF MCHENRY WHEREAS, National Manufacturing Day is an annual event, held on the first Friday in October and highlights the importance of manufacturing to our national economy, providing an opportunity for manufacturers throughout North America to open their doors to highlight the many rewarding high -skill jobs available in manufacturing -related industries; and WHEREAS, the National Manufacturing Day Mission Statement is: "To empower manufacturers to improve the public perception of manufacturing careers and the sector's value to the economic health of the U.S. by connecting them to business improvement, community resources, and next -generation workers; " and WHEREAS, the manufacturing sector in McHenry County employs a large percentage of our workforce and a very important economic sector throughout McHenry County; and WHEREAS, for generations, manufacturing has played a critical role in the United States, State of Illinois, McHenry County and the City of McHenry's diverse economy; and WHEREAS, City of McHenry is home to numerous national and international manufacturers within many different economic sectors including metalworking machinery manufacturing; medical equipment and supplies manufacturing; plastic resin and synthetic fiber manufacturing; plastics and rubber and electronics manufacturing; and WHEREAS, the City of McHenry is fortunate to have numerous business and industrial parks located throughout the city including McHenry Corporate Center, Sherman Hill Industrial Park, North Gate West, Prairie Pointe Business Park, Tonyan Industrial Park, Inland Business Park, Adams Commercial Center, Professional Plaza, and City Centre Business Park; and WHEREAS, Manufacturing companies in the City of McHenry range in size from less than ten employees to more than 400 employees occupying buildings from a 2,000 thousand square feet to more than 650,000 square feet; and WHEREAS, manufacturing jobs enable City of McHenry families to realize the dreams of owning a home, sending a child to college and enjoying a secure retirement and, manufacturers pay millions of dollars annually supporting schools, law enforcement, emergency preparedness, public works and other essential services; and WHEREAS, the City of McHenry advocates, supports and promotes the growth of manufacturing and related industries through numerous plans and programs to enable companies to expand or relocate to the City of McHenry but also to remain within the City of McHenry; and 1 WHEREAS, on September 22, 2016, from 6000 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the McHenry High School East Campus Gymnasium, 1012 N Green Street, a Manufacturing, Trades and Industry (MTI) Career Expo will be held featuring more than 40 industrial/manufacturing companies, as well as trade organizations throughout McHenry County and programs offered at McHenry Community High School District 156 and McHenry County College; and WHEREAS, the Manufacturing, Trades and Industry Expo is a collaborative effort sponsored by McHenry Community High School District 156 in partnership with the City of McHenry, McHenry County Economic Development Corporation, McHenry County Workforce Network, McHenry County College, McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club of McHenry Sunrise, and Jett's Heating and Air, Inc; and WHEREAS, the purpose of the Manufacturing, Trades and Industry Expo is to feature numerous opportunities local companies offer and to inform parents and students about the educational pathways that could benefit students as they decide on future careers and to find and sustain enough skilled people to fill positions throughout McHenry County; and WHEREAS, on October 4 and October 5, 2016 the McHenry Area Chamber of Commerce in partnership with McHenry Community High School District 156, Crystal Lake Community High School District 155 and companies throughout McHenry County will provide students with an opportunity to tour area manufacturers and learn what the companies do. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE CITY OF MCHENRY RECOGNIZES THE IMPORTANCE OF MANUFACTURING AND DESIGNATES OCTOBER 7, 2016 AS MANUFACTURING DAY IN THE CITY OF MCHENRY.
