WHEREAS, the Reverend Phyllis Mueller was the co-founder and creator of Home of
the Sparrow, a non-profit housing program for homeless women and children; and
WHEREAS, the Reverend Mueller founded the agency in 1986 with a group of
volunteers from seven churches which were responding to a growing need for homeless
assistance; and
WHEREAS, the Reverend Mueller has faithfully carried out her duties with care,
compassion, fortitude and persistence since the agency's origin thirteen years ago; and
WHEREAS, under the Reverend Mueller's guidance the agency has grown from a single
facility in McHenry County to a total of four shelters in McHenry, Woodstock, Crystal Lake, and
Palatine; and has also implemented a graduate apartment housing program and opened three
Sparrow's Nest Thrift Stores in McHenry, Cary, and Arlington Heights; and
WHEREAS, since its inception Home of the Sparrow has aided and assisted more than
1,700 women and children to achieve self-reliance, emphasizing education, job training, self-
esteem and independence; and
WHEREAS, the Reverend Phyllis Mueller has resigned her position as Executive
Director of Home of the Sparrow after thirteen years of service in order to return to active
ministry.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of McHenry go on record as
recognizing the numerous achievement and contributions of the Reverend Phyllis Mueller.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be incorporated into the minutes of
this meeting and that a copy be presented to the Reverend Mueller.
